Job Title: LE II Migration Delivery Assistant (Fixed Term Renewable)

Location: Abuja, Nigeria

The British High Commission is recruiting a Migration Delivery Assistant on a fixed term contract till 31 March, 2014 to work in its Migration Section.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:

•   Supporting the Migration team's implementation of project work to help incentivise the successful return and reintegration of irregular migrants back to Nigeria

•   Building, maintaining and using a strong network of contacts to enhance our operations to meet flights returning irregular migrants, and prisoner transfers

•   Strengthening relationships with rights-based organisations and civil society around the Lagos region

•   Supporting the UK Government's efforts to combat trafficking in human beings

•   Assisting Migration Section's events management and communications work

Qualities needed:

The British High Commission is recruiting a Migration Delivery Assistant to help deliver UK objectives on successful returns and reintegration of irregular migrants to Nigeria.  The job is a new position, with significant responsibility and a chance to make a real impact.

The right person will have a good political understanding of the underlying reasons why people migrate, and the need to support the successful return and reintegration of those who do so irregularly. It will be someone able to build strong networks with decision makers and then use those networks to deliver results. The role will be based in Lagos, but some of the activity (whether project work or political influencing) will take place in neighbouring states – so preparedness for regional travel (and occasional international travel) is a must.

The job holder will work closely with an existing Migration Delivery Officer and Migration Delivery Assistant (both in Abuja), as well as other colleagues in the British High Commission and Deputy High Commission.  Previous project experience would be advantageous.  Administrative ability – to keep track of numerous projects, record activities and account for expenditure – is vital.

This will be a challenging position. Getting it right will not be easy, but the satisfaction of being in a position to make a difference means this is a unique opportunity for the right person.

This is a full time position, with core working hours between 8am – 4:00pm, Monday to Thursday and 8am – 1.00pm on Friday – but you will need to be flexible about your hours given the regional travel and need to respond to incidents.  The job will be graded LE II with a monthly gross salary of N442,149 including allowances.  Successful candidates who are not liable to pay Nigerian tax will be subject to a 10 % notional tax deduction on the basic salary.  The salary will be paid Naira.
