Former Nigerian manager, Adegboye Onigbinde has described as comfortable the 4-1 victory of the Super Eagles over the Elephants of Ivory Coast in the first leg of the African Nations Championship (Chan) qualifier at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna on Saturday.
.
The reverse fixture comes up in fortnight in Abidjan, Ivory Coast which will ensure passage for the winners to the Chan finals in South Africa next year.
.
Striker Gambo Mohammed put the Eagles in front in the 12th minute while 2013 Afcon hero, Sunday Mba doubled his side's lead in the 28th minute but the Ivorians pulled one back through Tiecoura Coulibaly in the 42nd minute to end first stanza 2-1.
.
Mba scored from the penalty spot to make it 3-1 in the 54th minute while substitute, Ifeanyi Ede scored the fourth for Nigeria in the 82nd minute.
.
The Ivorians finished the game with nine men.
.
Onigbinde said the win is a comfortable scoreline going into the reverse fixture but warned the Nigerians against complacency.
.
"I believe 4-1 is a comfortable lead for the Super Eagles going into the reverse fixture in Abidjan but that's not to say the side should go to sleep.
.
"I'm never satisfied with my achievement no matter how comfortable it appears, so the Eagles must feel challenged by the first fixture achievement.
.
"It's a challenge to work hard to finish the good work they've started here in Nigeria over there in Abidjan.
.
"When you have something to defend you defend it with all your might so the Eagles have their work already cut out.
.
"This is a championship Nigeria has not featured in its two past editions so they must do their best to ensure the nation's flag is hoisted in South Africa next year," Onigbinde said.
.
Nigeria are yet to qualify for the biennial football fiesta exclusively reserved for domestic players plying their trade in their national leagues.

Congratulation to Nigeria on the comfortable 4-1 win over Ivory Coast!

Yeah we really did well by beating them with that sort of margin. They had no answer to all of our questions. They were weak!!!!
