The most common and (perceived effective) way to get government attention to any issue in Nigeria by any group is to embark on industrial action otherwise called strike.
.
Almost every group in Nigeria uses strike option to achieve their goals – Truck/tanker drivers, market men and women, teachers/lecturers, Judicial workers and transport workers(bus drivers) among others.
.
However, there is no doubting the fact that one of the major causes of educational crises in this country is incessant strikes by varsity lecturers, which are always precipitated by disagreements between government and teachers.
.
The indefinite strike embarked upon some weeks ago by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, stemmed from the failure of the Nigerian government to keep to the promise that it made in 2009.
