Some opposition parties under the aegis of Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, CNPP, in Ekiti State, yesterday endorsed the re-election bid of Governor Kayode Fayemi.

The parties said the political situation and the ongoing infrastructural development in the state compelled the need to give Fayemi the nod to continue for another term in office.

The CNPP said the violence which rocked the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Secretariat on Tuesday was enough to show what the party represented.

The state CNPP Chairman, Prince Tunji Ogunlola, said at a press briefing in Ado-Ekiti that the endorsement was to ensure Fayemi "restores the dignity of Ekiti people through the delivery of the long-delayed dividends of democracy to every nook and cranny of the state".

According to the CNPP chairman, the decision was arrived at by the 19 political parties that are members of the group.

Ogunlola, who enjoined Ekiti people irrespective of political and religious affiliations to support the governor, listed Fayemi's achievements to include "ensuring good governance through accountability, provision of veritable infrastructural development, investment in education, health and other sectors of the state economy".

Condemning the PDP crisis, the CNPP chairman said "the alleged plan to return Ekiti State to an era of free reign of violence and terror is an ill-wind that blows no good and must be resisted by all lovers of democracy".
