Roles and responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for managing all arrangements for an effective conduction of in-depth interviews (e.g., setting up tape-recorder, labeling the cassette tapes, and taking appropriate security measures to protect the tapes once the session is over, etc.)

• Responsible for taking detailed notes of key informant interviews, and then to expand those notes into rich descriptions.

• Responsible for tasks related to recording (operating the tape recorder, labeling the cassette tapes, and taking appropriate security measures to protect the tapes once the session is over).

• Conducts a debriefing session with the moderator immediately after the key informant interview. This should ideally begin shortly after the interview session has ended; within 15 minutes to a half-hour.

• Responsible for transcribing all taped-recording of the key informant interviews.

Deliverables:

• Expanded notes of each key informant interview conducted.

• Taped recording for each key informant interview conducted.

• Transcriptions for each taped key informant interview conducted.

Skill set   Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree

• Should be fluent in speaking Hausa and English, as well as in writing in English

• Minimum 3 years relevant work experience in the development sector, MNCH/FP/RH program assessment preferred. Also should have direct experience with working with rural communities,

• 1-3 years experience with qualitative research with 2 of which as a note taker

• Skills include mastery of an efficient system for taking copious notes and expanding them

• Transcribe notes and tapes using a specific format agreed upon with the consultant

• The ability to quickly identify and take down individual quotes that capture the spirit of a given point.

• Should be careful observers of verbal and non-verbal behaviors and be discreet about note-taking as they operate the recording equipment.

• Should be able to synthesize their observations to serve as the basis for immediate discussion, following each focus group session.
