Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, the Vice Chancellor, University of Ilorin, has advised. the Federal Government and  striking lecturers to reach a consensus.
.
Ambali gave the advice in Ilorin  while speaking with journalists at the Vice Chancellor's  Lodge.
.
He said  no lecturer derives  joy in going on strike and appealed to both parties to work for the restoration of academic activities in universities.
.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the university's branch of ASUU, however,  did not join the strike.
.
" The two parties should go back to the drawing board  and discuss their grievances and reach an agreement.
.
"I appeal to the two parties to close the gap, understand each other and come to terms on the demands of the striking lecturers,"  he said.
.
Ambali  also  said the university would soon start generating electricity from alternative sources using its dam, solar  power  and  waste.
