Super Falcons Look To Okon

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) technical and development committee has recommended Rivers Angels head coach, Edwin Okon as the caretaker coach of the Super Falcons.

The committee rose from its meeting in Abuja on Tuesday to announce the constitution of a caretaker coaching crew for the six-time African champions who have been without a substantive coach since November when coach Kadiri Ikhana resigned shortly after their worst performance at the African Women's Championship (AWC) in Equatorial Guinea.

Acting General Secretary, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme said the committee made the recommendation pending the ratification of the NFF executive committee in view of the two international friendly matches against the world champions, Japan in two Japanese cities on September 22 and 26.

The first game on September 22 will hold at the Nagasaki Prefectural Sports Park Track and Field Stadium in Isahaya and the second one on September 26 at Fukuda Denshi Arena in Chiba.

Edwin Okon, who led the Under-20 women's team, the Falconets to the semifinals of last year's Fifa Under-20 Women's World Cup in Japan, will be assisted by Christopher Danjuma and Bala Mohammed, who will play the role of goalkeeping coach.

Ikpeme said the coaches will hold forte for the friendly games as the body will later constitute substantive coaches for the whole women's national teams.

"The duo will take charge of the team for only the friendly games as substantive coaching crews for the Super Falcons, Falconets (Under-20) and Flamingoes (Under-17) will be constituted in due course," Ikpeme said.

The committee also recommended that the NFF executive committee approve for four-time African Woman Player of the Year, Perpetua Nkwocha to proceed on a coaching course.
