As part of measures to address the lopsidedness in the posting of secondary school teachers which had resulted in having more teachers concentrated in the urban at the expense of the rural areas, Ogun State Government has commenced a 4-day data screening for schools across the four divisions of the State.     Speaking at the exercise holding at Abeokuta Grammar School, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, the Chairman, Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Ms. Olubukunola Onabanjo expressed optimism that it would bring about even distribution of the teachers and enhance qualitative teaching and learning in all parts of the State.     “The major objective of this exercise is to tackle the challenges of lopsidedness of teachers and solve the problem of shortage of teachers in the rural areas headlong” Onabanjo stated.     She advised principals to give accurate data on the number of teachers and students available in their respective schools, emphasising that this would help in posting them in accordance with the recommended teacher-student ratio.  Onabanjo assured that the Commission would spare no effort to ensure welfare of both teachers and students, pointing out that their needs would always be given priority attention.     Also speaking, the Principal-General, Remo division, Mr. Michael Oredein noted that the exercise could not have come at a better time, particularly now that the resumption date for a new session was drawing nearer.  Oredein also shared the optimism expressed by the Commission’s Chairman on the importance of the exercise, challenging the principals not to withhold data needed to having an effective screening programme.     Speaking in the same vein, Chairman of All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) in Egba division, Mr, Kinkunmi Adenekan said the exercise would help to ease the pressure on some teachers who have been over burdened due to the non-availability of subject teachers in some of the schools.
