The Arinjale of Ise-Ekiti, Oba Adetunji Ajayi, has lauded former defence minister, Gen. Theophilus Danjuma, for embarking on philanthropic gesture to better the lives of Nigerians.

The monarch said this in Ise-Ekiti on Friday when officials of TY Danjuma Foundation visited the town to inspect the gari processing factory the foundation is building in the town.

The monarch, who was represented by one of his chiefs, Chief Zacheaus Ogundare, said the factory sited in Ise-Ekiti by the foundation, would alleviate the suffering of the people of the town in processing gari.

He urged other wealthy Nigerians to emulate the retired general to do things which would make lives better for the masses in the country.

According to him, philanthropic gestures from wealthy Nigerians will address the issue of poverty and reduce crime rate on the long run.

The Executive Director of Centre for Women and children Development, Mrs. Rachael Ogundare, said that Nigerian women had the potentials to turn around the economy of the country while pleading for more opportunities for them.

She said women had long gone away from playing only the traditional roles of house keeping to running the economy through their activities.

Ogundare urged various tiers of the government in the country to rise up to the challenge of women empowerment in the country.

Some of the women, who spoke at the event, solicited for more assistance, saying they also needed assistance to ease difficulties encountered in palm oil production.

The Executive Director of TY Danjuma Foundation, Ms. Thelma Ekiyor, said the foundation decided to finance gari processing factory in the community because of the abundance of cassava in the area.

She added that the decision to finance the project was also because "everybody eat gari and adding value to cassava would also boost the revenue of the country."
