The Center for Development Research is an international, English speaking research institute of the University of Bonn/ Germany which hosts the ZEF Doctoral Studies Program.

The Department "Political and Cultural Change" offers a post-doc position for Senior Researcher, PhD in "Demography, markets and livelihoods in West Africa"

Expectation:
The candidate will develop an individual research agenda under the framework of a research project in West Africa on land use and climate change adaptation, conduct field research and participate in other ZEFa work activities, including teaching in the disciplinary doctoral course and tutoring doctoral students. The candidate will be based at ZEF in Bonn.

Duration of the contract:
Seven months (August 2011 - February 2012) with the possibility for a 3 years extension under conditional acceptance of the confirmation by the funding agency. The payment will be calculated according to the German tariff system for public employees.

Requirements for the applicants:
. very good degree (PhD, Dr.phil.) in social and cultural anthropology, social geography, development sociology, development politics or development studies
. willingness to work in an interdisciplinary team
. profound knowledge in qualitative methods and quantitative data analysis software, such as SPSS, R or STATA is required
. experience in field research in a development context, in teaching and supervising students is required
. very good writing skills in English and good knowledge of French are required
. knowledge of German is of advantage
. work experience in West Africa is of advantage
