The octogenarian mother of the National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olusola Oke, Mrs. Miriam Oke, was on Monday evening abducted from her residence in Igbokoda, the headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Oke, who said this in a telephone conversation with our correspondent on Tuesday, stated that the abductors had not contacted him or any other member of the family to place a ransom on his abducted mother.

According to him, a five-man gang of well armed kidnappers forcibly took away the old woman in the presence of his younger brother whose name he gave as Henry Oke and other siblings.

He appealed to those holding the octogenarian to consider the effect of the abduction on an old woman and ensure her release without delay.

Oke, who also released the news of his mother's abduction in a press statement on Tuesday, said it was his belief that very soon the issue of abduction would become history in the country.

He said, "We are not sure whether or not she was taken out of the community in the car or in a boat through the nearby waterway which connects Ondo with Lagos and Delta states.

"In the confusion they created, no member of the community seemed to know their escape route."

The legal luminary said his main concern was the safety of his mother and lamented that the abductors had not contacted him or any member of the family to disclose the motive behind their action.

He said, "We do not have a clear clue yet on those who did this evil thing to an old woman. I only hope that these are kidnappers and not assassins who are thirsty for the blood of the innocent."

The Ondo State Police Command through its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Aremu Adeniran, confirmed the development and said it had put necessary machinery in motion to secure the release of the old woman.

The police also promised to make the abductors of the octogenerian to face the full wrath of the law.

It will be recalled that the mother of billionaire businessman and politician, Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim, was abducted in similar circumstances at Igbotako, some 15 kilometers from Igbokoda about three months ago.
