Barely 48 hours after the Kabo Airlines' aircraft incident at Sokoto Airport, the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) yesterday said it has commenced full investigation into the cause of the incident.

A Boeing 747-300 aircraft that was Saudi-bound crash landed in Sokoto on Friday night when it destroyed the Instrument Landing System (ILS) on the runway of the airport. There were over 500 passengers and crew members onboard when the incident happened.

The aircraft was believed to have burst tyres on landing.

An online statement signed by the spokesman for the agency, Mr. Tunji Oketunbi, said that the AIB investigators have been dispatched to conduct investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident with a view to determining the probable cause.

"AIB is charged with the responsibility to investigate aircraft accidents and serious incidents within the country and where Nigeria interest is represented.

"AIB's investigation is not to apportion blame or liability but to prevent future reoccurrence of such incident and improve air safety," he said.
