FG sympathises with Ondo State over air mishap

A delegation led by the Minister of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation, Edem Duke has commiserated with the Government and people of Ondo State on the death of the former Governor of the State, Olusegun Agagu.

The delegation also condoled the State on the recent Associated Airline crash which claimed the lives of four State Government officials and other occupants of the aircraft at the instance of conveying the corpse of the late Agagu from Lagos to Akure for burial.

The Minister expressed the heart-felt condolence message from President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Vice President Namadi Sambo and members of the Federal Executive Council to the Ondo State Government, describing the occurrence as saddening.

According to the message, 'the death of the former Ondo State Governor coupled with the incidence of the plane crash which occurred when the corpse of the former Minister of Power was taken to Ondo State for burial by the State Government was a huge shock to members of the Federal Executive Council.'

Edem Duke who described the late Olusegun Agagu as a blessing to Ondo State and Nigeria added that he was an intellectual giant whose immense contribution to the Nigerian Power Sector will be remembered for a long time. He also extolled the virtues of the former Ondo State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Deji Falae saying his "dynamism and creativity" in the development of culture in Ondo State and Nigeria was commendable. The Minister wished the government and people of Ondo State the fortitude and strength to bear the irreparable loss.

In his response, the State Governor, Olusegun Rahman Mimiko expressed gratitude to President Goodluck Jonathan, Vice President Namadi Sambo and members of the Federal Executive Council for their love and concern for the State. The Governor further commended the President for his move to probe into the cause of the mishap, noting that the effort would enable the Aviation Sector to guide against its re-occurrence in the future.

While praying that God should console the families of those affected by the unfortunate incident, Rahman Mimiko also prayed God's strength for the bereaved that they may be able to bear the loss of their departed ones.

Other members of the delegation were the Minister of Communication Technology, Omobola Johnson, the Director-General of the Technical Aids Corps, Pius Osunyikanmi and the Director of Culture in the Federal Ministry of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation, George Uffot. They also visited the home of the former Secretary to the Federation, Oluyemi Falae whose son died in the air-mishap.
