The Chairman Senate Committee on MDGs and Senator representing Southern Borno, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume has said there is no need for National Conference, as it is a diversion from the real issues affecting Nigerians.
.
Senator Ndume who made this assertion during an interactive with Journalists in his Maiduguri residence, said that what Nigerians need now is the provision of basic social amenities such as good roads, hospitals, schools and potable water.
.
He said a national conference this time around is mere waste of resources, as the democratic system Nigeria is practicing now has provided genuine representatives of the people at all levels of government, as the national conference has no place in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
.
The Senator further explained that similar conferences were held during the past administrations, but their recommendations have never seen the light of the day, adding that what Nigerians need now is good governance that will alleviate the sufferings of the masses.
.
In an emotion laden voice, Senator Ndume said "we have serious problems at hand which if not nib in the bud will consume us. Look at the injustices perpetrated in this country, insecurity, unemployment and corruption have become the order of the day and Nigerians are swimming in pools of abject poverty amidst plenty"
.
On the incessant air mishaps in the country, he said it is a shame that the minister of aviation could go on air and tell Nigerians that accidents are inevitable, lamenting that these accidents could be avoided as most of them were due to human error.
