Nigeria partners Argentina on job creation

The Minister of Labour and Productivity, Emeka Wogu has revealed that the main policy thrust of the present administration is to create jobs and ensure industrial harmony with the practice of social dialogue as enshrined in the International Labour Organisation (ILO) standards.

The Minister stated this in his office on Thursday October 24, 2013 while receiving in audience the Argentine Ambassador to Nigeria, Gustavo Dzugala.

According to the Minister, the Transformation Agenda of the administration of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has job creation as its main policy thrust with focus on mass employment. This initiative, he added is traceable to the policy of the Ministry of Labour and Productivity which is referred to as the National Action Plan on Employment Creation.

Emeka Wogu further stated that the Community Services Women and Youths Employment Project of SURE-P which is domiciled in the Ministry of Labour and Productivity has generated 3,000 jobs in each of the 36 states of the Federation. He mentioned that the area of job execution includes the Federal Capital Territory with a target of 5,000 jobs in each state of the federation per year.

He assured the Ambassador of the Ministry's readiness to work with him, in order to strengthen the bilateral relations between the Argentine Republic and Nigeria, especially in uniting to fight against unemployment.

Earlier in his remarks, the Argentine Ambassador to Nigeria, Gustavo Dzugala stated that the purpose of the visit was to propose project cooperation and to exploit the Ministry's policies that have succeeded in addressing the challenges of unemployment in Nigeria. He congratulated the Labour Minister for his efforts at job creation and the maintenance of industrial harmony in Nigeria.

"We are here to improve our relationship with the Ministry and propose some cooperation projects in relation to mass job creation. We want to explore the experiences of your policies that have succeeded in this field and we hope to exchange experiences and policies," he stated.
