The Supervising Minister of Youth Development, Bolaji Abdullahi has disclosed that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) was very relevant not only in the past but also in the present day Nigeria despite the fact that challenges have been quite enormous.

Bolaji Abdullahi stated this when the Governing Board of NYSC led by the Chairman, Gordon Bozimo paid him a courtesy call in his office in Abuja recently.

The Supervising Minister also explained that it will be contradictory for Nigerians to believe that the mandate of the scheme will remain unchanged against the background of the realities faced by the country presently, since these are different from the realities which informed its establishment in 1973.

He charged the Board to bring up ideas and innovations which would re-position the scheme as a platform through which Nigerians will address the nation's present day realities especially within the youth sector.

Abdullahi praised President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for the quality of distinguished citizens with proven track record and integrity that have been selected to serve on the NYSC Governing Board.

While speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Governing Board of NYSC, Gordon Bozimo remarked that the Board has decided to visit the Minister in order to interact with him on issues that are germane to the scheme. He revealed that the Board intends to revisit the posting policy of the NYSC to see how serving corps members would be retained in their respective places of primary assignment instead of being used as cheap labour.

Gordon Bozimo pledged the Governing Board's loyalty and total commitment to the realization of the Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan for the youth sector.
