FG to introduce concrete tester and surveyor for road inspection

In its quest for development and the sustained clamour for improved road sector infrastructure and the desire to join the league of super-nations by 20:2020, the Federal Ministry of Works is to introduce the use of Concrete Tester and Surveyor equipment to improve road maintenance and management techniques in the country.

 

This was disclosed by the Minister of Works, Arc. Mike Onolememen, when a delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) under the leadership of Mr. Kubo Eiji paid him a courtesy call in his office, recently.

 

Arc. Onolememen who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Abubakar Koro Muhammad,  expressed his happiness over the visit and the opportunity that would be available to the Ministry's Engineers for capacity building on how to use the gadgets.  The expected training would enhance their skills to understand the use of the equipment in road and bridge's inspection and will include the practical training for civil engineers which would be conducted by NITTO Team in Japan.

 

The Minister assured the delegation, of the Ministry's optimism and commitment in ensuring that sub-standard materials are not used by contractors in carrying out road and bridge construction.  He also informed the delegation that the Federal Ministry of Works is looking forward to the opportunity given by NITTO to train some Engineers in the ministry.

 

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Mr. Kubo Eiji emphasised the relevance of the equipment to the Ministry of Works as the Ministry saddled with the responsibility of maintaining road infrastructure in the country and promised to collaborate in areas where the agency may be relevant to the Ministry.
