Crs – First 45years, An Authoritative Literature-Cobham

 

The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Barr. Efiok Cobham said "Cross River State – first 45years", a book launched recently at Channel View Hotel, Calabar, is an authoritative literature for everyone to know his or her root.

This opinion was contained in a statement made at the book presentation, while he noted that, Chief William Inah, the author of the Book, has done so much in Cross River State emphasizing that Chief Inah, who is already retired has successfully converted his retirement into something beneficial to all and sundry by writing a book.

In his opening remarks, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, the Chairman of the occasion and representative of the Senate leader, Senator Ndoma- Egba thanked all for taking time out and congratulated the author of the Book for a Job well done.

The Chairman of the occasion described the author as amiable and full of integrity saying, Chief Inah is the Governor Cross River State never had. He also said, Cross River State has been a fascinating project and has come first in several fields of life and urged Cross Riverians to arise, love themselves, come together and show commitment to the State.

In a citation on the author, it was said that the credibility of the story has much to do with the personality of the story teller who shortly after graduating from University of Ibadan (U.I) with B.A (Hon) in history, joined the Federal Service as an Education Officer in 1966, after which he served as a Permanent Secretary for twelve years which exposed him to areas such as Information, Land, Survey, Health, and Works.

Chief Wilfred Inah became head of Civil Service in 1983 and was also described as a man who laid emphasis on achievements rather than counting number of years. As the Governor Cross River never had, he served for five years in Federal Character Commission. He is hold three chieftaincy titles: Ijom Aguagune and Ugep, incurrently, a member of governing council of CRUTECH.

In his review of the book, Alex U. Iwara Professor of Linguistic, said the book captures not only a part of the state but also the history of Civil Service and the policy of Government of Cross River State. He also said that no summary can do justice to the book. His comments: "the words are appropriate and exact; there is hardly a spelling error, just one or two".He emphasized that the book is a 'must read' for everyone because it is flowing from the pen of a man of integrity.

In his speech, the author of "Cross River State - first 45years", said "for too long, we have referred to our heroes past whose labor must not be in vain", need to be rewarded so as to encourage others to make a name in history.

    He said apart from writing a book, other ways of making a name in history  are stamping out corruption, ending of Importation of electricity generating set so that the Government can focus on the power sector, ending cultism in schools and crude oil theft.

Present at the book launch were the Deputy – Governor during Clement Isong's (NPN) regime, Dr. Cletus Ofoboche; Etubom Anthony Ani, former Minister for Finance a representative of Chief Mrs. Helen Esuene, the Senate Leader represented by the Chairman of the event Senator Bassey Out, former Heads of Service, Commissioners past and present Executive Council members and members of Elders forum among many other dignitaries within and outside the State.

So many things have been happening in Cross River State that is just a step in the right direction for everyone present there.
