10 armoured tanks, top military officers for poll

The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, yesterday, said that about 10 military armoured tanks, jet fighters and fully armed naval boats as well as top military, Police, Air force and Naval officers will be deployed to various parts of Anambra on Saturday, to ensure the peaceful conduct of the governorship election.

Abubakar, who made this disclosure in Awka, the state capital yesterday, stated that police is fully prepared to provide security and peace to the people of Anambra during and after the election.

Speaking during the Governorship Election 2013 Stakeholders' Forum organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Abubakar stated that in each of the three senatorial zones,a Commissioner of Police and contingent of fully armed mobile police officers will be deployed to provide security for the election.

He warned the candidates to desist from using their police escorts or orderly on the election day.

Throwing light on security arrangement for the election, Abubakar said: "In each of the senatorial districts, we have gotten troops from the Army, Air force and the Navy for immediate deployment if necessary. Ten armoured tanks and other ammunition have been brought for this election. Those who are out to break the law, we will break them. If you have no business in this election, please stay in your home and do what is right.

"I want to warn troublemakers that we shall not allow this election to fail. There is no room for manipulation; the electoral officers know what to do and we shall work in partnership with them to make this election succeed."
