Nigeria Super Falcons ended their tournament campaign drought with a lone victory over Canada, in the last group game, in the ongoing FIFA women's world cup Germany 2011.

A late winning goal from Perpetua Nkwocha saw Nigeria defeat Canada 1-0 in an action-packed encounter and claim their FIFA Women's World Cup win since 1999.

Stella Mbachu from Nigeria was named Player of the match.

Congratulations to Nigeria and our team for this feat.

At least, Nigeria they got three points, although they are out of the competition.

The Super Falcons are a regular on the world stage having contested every FIFA Women's World Cup, although they have only once made it past the group stage. That was back in 1999, when they fell at the quarter-final stage, 4–3 after extra time to the powerful Brazilians.

Nigeria's case can be likened to an adage in a Nigerian local language (Yoruba) which says, a the powerful or champion in an area, might be a powerless or a toothless bulldog in another area or domain.

Nigeria have dominated Female football in Africa, winning six tithes out of seven, from its inception, but have failed to make much impact on the world stage.

Anyway, there is still room for improvement.

Congratulation once again to the Super Falcons, for not leaving the competition pointless.

The USA women's soccer team went to the playoff rounds of the women's World Cup as weighty favorites, and ultimately got to the end. The Japanese team, a serious underdog, put paid American hopes by winning a shootout after additional time in the final. USA team defeated by Japan in World Cup final. The game was tied after overtime, then the Japanese teamsuccessfully sent three shots into the net, and the American women only managed to put in one. Many people felt that the underdog Japanese team deserved the victory to lift spirits in Japan, after natural disasters ravaged the nation earlier this year. This is the first time an Asian nation has won the Women's World Cup final. China came close in 1999, when the Chinese team lost by one point in a shootout with the United States team.

The match was an action-packed encounter, with Nigeria winning at-last with a lone goal. The win ended the Nigeria's tournament drought, and it was a relief for the female national team and the coaching crew.

Additionally, Canada who were gaining prominence in female football, crashed out of the championship pointless, having lost all their group stage matches to France, Germany and Nigeria.
