Alas, Austin Eguavoen boast about Nigeria beating Ghana in Kumasi, to qualify for the All Africa Games Soccer Championship was shattered.

Nigeria's Dream Team V will for the second consecutive time be missing in action at the male football event of the All Africa Games after losing 0-2 to the Black Meteors of Ghana to miss the ticket to Maputo 2011 on away goals' rule as the two-legged game ended on 3-3 goal aggregate.

With a 3-1 first leg advantage, the Austin Eguavoen tutored lads yesterday faltered against the Ghanaians before a not-too impressive fan turn-out at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi.

Goals by Emmanuel Agyemang in the 10th minute and Richard Mpong in the 70th minute were enough to kill the dream of the Nigerian team and earned the Black Meteors a ticket to Maputo 2011.

According to agency reports, the Dream Team failed to play purposeful football right from the blast of whistle, as the Ghanaians were overwhelming all through.

It will be recalled that Ghana also stopped Nigeria from qualifying for the men's soccer event of the last All Africa Games, Algiers 2007.

This is nothing but result of over-confidence. I have once said in one of my comments when Austin Eguavoen was boasting. I said, it was better for them to prepare well than talking. Here is the aftermath. Good luck to Ghana.

l remember you saying something about Austin Eguavoen boasting about Nigeria beating Ghana in Kumasi, instead of preparing hard for the match. Ghana's under 23 coach didn't reply to his boasting, but they prepared hard and went ahead to win, and qualify for the championship.

It goes to show that, "actions speaks louder than words."

Football matches are not won at the drawing board, but on the pitch.
