IMO state pays 12yrs pension arrears to pensioners

lmo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has paid the12 years pension arrears owed pensioners in the state. 

Newsmen reports that there was a large turnout of pensioners from the 27 local government areas of the state for the exercise which took place in Owerri.

Governor Okorocha, who has declared July 18, every year as Pensioners Day, also announced the donation of two working vehicles to the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) Imo State branch.  He commended the pensioners for their contributions to the growth and development of the state.

"We have come here to celebrate the efforts of our heroes past. May their labours never be in vain. I apologise to you for the sufferings and pains you endured in the past 12 years", he said.

He advised them to engage in volunteer services for the state and other establishments to keep fit.

Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Ben Uwajimobi commended the governor for the gesture, and pledged the continuous support of the House.

Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state, Emma Anyadike also commended Okorocha for the payment, assuring that his union would work harmoniously with the administration.

Wonderful! This is really great. I knew Governor Rochas Okorocha to be a philanthropist and he has continued with the same spirit. May he be blessed. This is a lesson to other state governors.
