Finnish Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen told YLE of his worries for the economic situation in Europe. Appearing on YLE's Aamu TV programme, he explained the urgency of the European economic situation and the risk of a new and deeper recession.

"Italian and Spanish bond yields rose to their new record highs. That is a very alarming and scary thing," Katainen told YLE. "The whole of Europe is in a very dangerous situation."

Yesterday the PM appeared before parliament's Grand Committee to explain the deal reached on bailing out Greece's government. The PM had faced criticism for potentially exceeding the mandate granted him by the committee, but the deal was eventually approved by 16 votes to 9.
