Police kill five suspected robbers in Lagos

 THE Lagos State Police Command yesterday killed five alleged armed robbers around Fola Agoro Street in Somolu, a suburb of Lagos State.

The Command's spokesman, Mr. Samuel Jinadu and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Mr. Johnson Woke, who at about 3.30 p.m. displayed the bodies of the alleged robbers, told reporters that five out of the seven caught in the act were gunned down while two others escaped.

Jinadu stated: "The Lagos State Police Command is not relenting in its efforts to bring crimes and criminality to its barest minimum in the state. About noon this afternoon, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Alade Police Station, Mr. Johnson Woke, a Chief Superintendent of Police and its team, were on patrol at Fola Agoro in Somolu area. They sighted some armed robbers with gun who made some people to lie face down and in the process; one of their victims was shot because he attempted to look at the faces of the robbers. The moment police sighted them; they fled from the scene of the incident.

"They attempted to rob a Honda Sports Utility Van and its owner also at that particular time, but because of the timely intervention of the police, they did not succeed. There was an exchange of gunfire between the police and the armed robbers and five of them fell to the superior firepower of the police while two escaped into the thin air. Efforts are being made by the police to get the two fleeing suspects arrested.
