Denmark's Lyngby-Taarbæk Municipality to invest savings in new hardware

The small Danish municipality of Lyngby-Taarbæk has shifted to OpenOffice and has experienced an upfront savings of the equivalent of 800 000 dollars.  More savings over time are expected from factors like maintenance.  The shift itself cost the same as shifts between the outgoing vendors previous product, a sunk cost.  The outgoing vendor has turned to publicly attacking the municipal administration and official through, among other methods, open letters in the local paper. 

The move will give Lyngby-Taarbæk great economic advantage on the software side, and open previously unavailable choices and possibilities for systems and hardware.  On the data side it will get support for the OASIS' OpenDocument Format favored by, and in some cases required by, the EU.

This is good news and i hope companies and organizations in Nigeria will also follow this route.
