Borno Gov Pleads With Fleeing Residents To Return

 GOVERNOR Kashim Shettima of Borno State has appealed to fleeing residents of Maiduguri metropolis and Jere council to return to their respective residences and communities, as relative peace has been restored in the state with the deployment of the Joint Task Force (JTF) to protect people's lives and property.

The governor made the appeal yesterday in an interview with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) to mark his 100 days in office.

He said the issue of insecurity to lives and property is not peculiar to Borno, but the entire country, which calls for prayers.

Shettima attributed some of the problems that led to youths' restiveness to idleness caused by massive unemployment.

He said his administration is putting in  place measures to create more jobs by setting up skills acquisition centres in all the 27 councils of the state.

He said that the centres, when completed, would train and re-train unemployed youths in tailoring, carpentry and other vocations.

It is unfair for Borno state governor to ask fleeing residents to return, when the city is not yet safe for living, and it still remains a safe haven for Boko Haram and its criminal acts.
