Osun Govt Commences Training Of OYES Engineer Corps

Osun State government has commenced the training of corps members of its youth empowerment scheme in basic engineering and construction skills, ahead of the take-off of the construction and maintenance of roads in the state.

The training programme, which was tagged Train the Trainers Workshop, was designed for the beneficiaries, to begin training of other corps members under the supervision of engineers of various expertise from the state Ministry of Works and Transportation.

OYES corps members with specialty in engineering fields, from the three senatorial districts of the state, would undergo training seminar to equip them with the necessary knowledge ahead of the public construction works in the state.

According to supervising engineer, Kamardeen Babalola, who is a Deputy Director in the state Ministry of Works, the aim of the seminar was to equip the corps members with maintenance skills, to be able to aid the various developmental projects in the state.

He added that the initiative of the state government is to ensure that roads and public works in the state are given adequate maintenance and ensure their durability.

The engineer added that the level of training, the corps members were exposed to, would make them qualified as maintenance personnel on the state highways, as well as other sector of the economy that needed regular maintenance.

Babalola stated further that the state would benefit more from the initiative, maintaining that its manpower base and technical capability would be on the increase.

Addressing the corps members, the commandant, Colonel(rtd) Eni-Ibukun Oyewole, revealed that the training is to expose them to practical aspect of engineering works, to enable them have enough knowledge on road maintenance skills.

According to him, the administration of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has passion for the development and empowerment of the youths and would stop at nothing, to ensure that they are adequately catered for.

He therefore enjoined the corps members to take better advantage of the training and ensure that they improve on the theoretical knowledge they get from their days in school.

Furthermore, he warned the beneficiaries that government would not treat any corps member, who flaunts its directives with levity, saying measures would be taken to ensure compliance.

"This training seminar is to ensure that you improve on your already acquired knowledge, with a view to adding values to you and to its developmental project, so make sure you give in your best and help to improve the quality of service delivery in the state", he added.

The beneficiaries acknowledged the numerous benefits of the training, saying it would go a long way in helping them to grasp the numerous opportunities in the field of structural engineering.
