Osun NCP Chair Sues For Peace

Osun State Chairman of the National Conscience Party (NCP), Alhaji  Waheed Lawal, has called on Muslims faithful across the state, to emulate the virtues of prophet Ibrahim and ensure peaceful co-existence among different religious groups in the state.

He disclosed this while speaking with OSUN DEFENDER in Osogbo, the state capital on Monday.

The human rights activist stated that Islam and Christianity derived their root from the life and time of Ibrahim, saying the two creeds have no reason to exist like parallel lines.

He added that peaceful co-existence among the various religious groups in the state should not be restricted to the festive periods alone, but should look beyond festivals, for the sake of development of the state.

According to him, religious differences should be exploited for greater development of the people rather than a tool for violence.

"Though, Osun is religiously peaceful, but we should look at ways of enhancing its development through greater understanding of one another, like the prophets did in the past. It is in the interest of our state, if we exploit the opportunity in religion differences positively", Lawal added.

He further called on residents of the state to live in accordance with the rule of law, saying it is only when citizens learn to respect the law that meaningful progress can be achieve in the state.

Speaking further, he eulogized the administration of Mr. Rauf Aregbesola for alleviating the sufferings of the commuters during the festive periods, by facilitating the transportation through the rail system.

He added, "We in the NCP decided to cooperate with the administration of Aregbesola, because we believe that his administration's policies are masses-oriented and the best we can do is to ensure that he succeeds at turning the face of governance around in the state".

Lawal maintained that with the level of peace in the state in the last one year, it is certain that development would not elude the state, if the residents of the state give the administration the necessary support.
