A NIGERIAN, Mr. Adetoye Oremosu, 32, has won the 2010 United Nations Citizen Ambassador. He is the first African to win the award which is bestowed on regional basis. Oremosu won for the African States' region.

The winning entry is on "Why the Millennium Development Goals are important to me and my family: The intervention of the Universal Basic Education (UBE) in Nigeria". It was submitted on video format through YouTube. Oremosu and five other winners from the other regions will be honoured with the Citizen Ambassadors to the United Nations award at the UN Headquarters in New York, during the UN Day Concert 2010.

The winner, who works with the School of Media and Communication, Pan-African University, Lagos, said he hopes his win would be "another spark of light in the somewhat dark news that pervades our media and indeed our lives corporately in Nigeria".

KWARA State Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has said his ambition was borne out of clarion calls from prominent Nigerians to serve the nation at the federal level.
