Osun Ready To Terminate Oyinlola’s Life Chairmanship

Osun State House of Assembly is set to determine the status of the former state governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and the membership of Obasanjo Presidential Library chairman in the governing board of the Osun state Centre for Black Culture and International Understanding.

The state governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola last week Wednesday sent two bills to the State House of Assembly. The first was to amend the 2008 Osun State Law of the Centre for Black Culture and International Understanding.

The second bill was the 2011 Amendment Bill of the Osun state Local Government Administration.

In a letter directed to the House Speaker, Honourable Najeem Salam dated November 15 and signed by the state governor, the State Executive Council proposed to amend Section 8 of the 2008 CBCIU law.

According to the existing law, Oyinlola is the chairman of the governing board of the centre, while two members from Obasanjo Presidential Library are automatic members of the board.

The law was enacted by the last assembly after the transfer of Ulli and Georgina Beirr achieves from Sydney in Australia and signed into law by Oyinlola on December 29, 2008.

The new proposed 2011 amendment bill by Aregbesola, if passed into law, will empower the sitting governor in the state to appoint the chairman for the centre and completely expunge the representatives of Obasanjo Presidential Library.

Addressing the lawmakers on the bills during the sitting, the House Speaker, Honourable Salam urged the members to study the bills properly for necessary amendments and put the question whether the bill should pass first reading.

The 2011 amended local government bill sent by the governor was among others meant to increase the membership of the councils' caretaker committee from seven to ten, including the appointment of special advisers to enhance the administration of local government administration.

The two bills were unanimously passed for the first reading by the legislators.

Meanwhile there are more revelations on the efforts of Oyinlola to persuade the incumbent governor to allow him remain the life chairman of the centre.

According to information from the centre, Oyinlola wrote Aregbesola on March 23, 2011 on the status of the centre, stating some conditions attached to its establishment.

A credible source, who pleaded anonymity, confided in OSUN DEFENDER that Oyinlola had envisaged the likely amendment of the law, which informed his letter to the governor.

The letter, which bore the heading of the centre, was signed by Oyinlola as the Chairman, Board of Trustees, explained the processes of establishing the centre and pleaded with the governor to support the centre.

Concluding part of the letter reads; "I am prepared to meet with you on matters relating to CBCIU generally, or on the issues raised in this letter in order to further clarify whatever grey areas you may have observed".
