As Nigeria reaches the milestone of 50 years as an independent nation, Nigerians from all backgrounds will converge in New York on Saturday September 25th 2010 under the auspices of the Nigerian Peoples' Parliament in Diaspora (NPPiD) at its 3rd parliamentary session. The session will be devoted to reflecting on Nigeria's trajectory after 50 years of existence as a postcolonial entity.

The theme for the forthcoming parliamentary session is "Nigeria At 50: Problems, Progress And Prospects".

When in February this year, I wrote a piece calling on Nigeria's new President, Goodluck Jonathan to quickly settle down and make it up to Nigerians, it was out of a gut feeling that here was  a man not ready for the moment. A leader untested in leading a pack of school prefects marauding as Ministers and unskilled in the art of governance. In that piece titled-" Jonathan-The fierce Urgency of Now", I said- "After the dead bodies are buried, the wreaths laid and the trumpet sound of the victors peters off, the urgency to put Nigeria back to work will be more demanding than ever.

It has been more than a few weeks now following the publication of a piece in this medium in which some unnamed sources that claimed close association to Mr. Nuhu Ribadu and his ambition to become Nigeria's de facto leader went beyond what had prior to then become an insidious style of flying the kite of Mr. Nuhu Ribadu's possible run for the presidency in the shaky elections that have been slated early next year, to state categorically that he would run.
