Eyeliner

To really define your eyes, apply a thin line of eyeliner in black or brown, khaki, plum or navy.

To properly apply the eyeliner pencil or liquid liner, gently pull the corner of your eye outward, forming a straight line along your lashes. Starting at the inside corner and working toward the outside, delicately trace a line with the pencil angled toward your lashes.

Be careful how much eyeliner you apply, as a little really does go a long way. For a dramatic look, thicker and darker is very acceptable. For a subtle definition, stick with a lighter application.

Eyeliner Application

1. Close-Set Eyes
Line outer third of upper lids with gray, brown, or black liner. Smudge gently. Use a lighter liner on the inner eye to widen the space between eyes.

2. Small Eyes
Draw a dark line gradually thickening at outer edge of the eye. Use a light-colored pencil (gold, silver, white) and draw under lower lash.

3. Deep-Set Eyes
Line upper lash line with pale, shimmery liner. Then line outer edge of lower lash with a soft, neutral shade (gray or taupe). This will create the illusion of a less heavy lid.

4. Drooping Eyes
Line outer third of eye very close to lashes, carefully sweeping the liner up at the corner of the eye.

Is Your Makeup Safe To Use?

Not all of us may be aware of this, but if we are careless with the use and storage of our makeup, our makeup could end up infecting and damaging our skin.

How is this possible?

Most cosmetics available out there have water as one of their main ingredients. Water is a favorite breeding ground for different kinds of germs, and some of these germs can infect the skin and make us sick.

Of course, most makeup products have chemicals in them that are meant to preserve the makeup and prevent the germs from infesting in the product. The thing is, constant exposure to heat, sunlight and humidity can make these preservatives weak.

Suggestions for Use and Storage of Makeup

1. Keep the makeup products and tools stored in a place that is cool and dry. Exposing these products to direct sunlight should also be avoided.

2. Makeup containers should be closed tightly when not in use.

3. Pencils, whether eyebrow pencils, lip-liners or eye-liners, should always be covered tightly when in storage and sharpened after every use.

4. Products that come in stick form, such as stick foundations and blushes, should be wiped off thoroughly with a clean tissue after every application.

5. Avoid using makeup if suffering from any kind of skin infection. Whatever items that are used during an outbreak should be thrown away, or the infection will only keep recurring.

Storage of Makeup

*When putting on makeup, use disposable applicators that are clean and dry rather than our own fingers.
* Never share makeup and makeup tools, even with your mothers, sisters or closest girlfriends.
* If the product changes in color, texture, smell or even taste, dispose of the product and shop for a new one.
* If the product's consistency is no longer the same as it was when it was new, never add water or saliva to makeup. Just throw it away and get a new one.
* We should also remember to wash the makeup tools that we use, the applicators, the brushes and the spongers, at least once a week. There are good cosmetic cleansers out there for this very purpose, but mild soap and dishwashing liquid can also do the trick. We should make sure to dry our makeup tools very carefully before putting them away.

Hand Treatment

Hands are the most visible parts of you, but they also take a lot of abuse.

You use them in everyday activity, and yet, they are the ultimate accessory. You must give them the same attention you give your face.

Subsequent updates will give you tips on how you can take good care of your hands.

A Quick Hand Treatment

Wash hands thoroughly with warm water, then, using a coarse washcloth, rub briskly.

While skin is slightly damp, apply a mixture of one teaspoon honey and one teaspoon olive oil.

Place hands in small plastic bags, then in a pair of cotton gloves for thirty minutes. The heat helps the treatment penetrate.

How to Apply Eyeliner

Liquid eyeliner should only be used above the top lashes.

It is best to use a pencil or eyeshadow under the lower lashes. For a more dramatic look, use a colored kohl pencil above and below lashes and follow with a black liquid liner on the top. It will make your lashes appear darker and will stay on all day.

A dark eye-liner highlights the shape of your eyes and deepens the look. Softly line with eyeliner pencil, draw a thin line along lashes next to roots.

For a dramatic look, lightly dot color along the lower lashes. For softness, line can be smudged with fingertip.

Eyeliner Pencil

The eyeliner pencil should be able to draw a thin, unbroken line along your skin - test it on your hand or arm first. Either sharpen it until the line is thin enough, or if it is too thin, draw a line on a tissue, which will make the tip blunter.

You should hold the eyeliner pencil as you would hold a pencil or pen to write with, usually with your dominant hand. Use your other hand to stretch the eye you are going to line from the outer corner. You can rest your hand holding the pencil against the hand pulling your lid taut.

Don't try to focus on your whole eye lid at one time - just look at the part you are drawing on. The line should be just above your eye lashes on the top lid and just below on the bottom, and should extend just to the outer corner of your eye.

Be wary if your eyeliner pencil tip is quite dry, as this may pull at delicate eye tissue. Draw the line with care if this is the case.

Liquid Eyeliner

Liquid eyeliner comes in a bottle rather like ink, and you must use a separate brush to apply. The best result will come from a point liner brush.

It is natural to close your eye as you draw the line, but if you keep it open, it will actually make it easier to follow the curve of your lid and thus have a straighter line.

You do not need to try and paint a continuous line with liquid eyeliner. It is actually easier to pain a few small dashes onto the lash line, eg. Inner corner, middle and outer corner, then go back and connect them.

If you want a thicker line than this initial thin one, build it up gradually. Start at the middle of the lash line and draw towards the outer corner. You can extend the line slightly past the outer corner of your eyelid if you wish.
