Slain hostage's son thanks Cameron for condolences

Rome - The son of an Italian hostage found slain during a botched British-Nigerian rescue attempt has thanked British Prime Minister David Cameron for sending condolences.

Mattia Lamolinara offered his thanks on Monday after the funeral of  his father, engineer Franco Lamolinara.

The elder Lamolinara and a fellow hostage, a British engineer, were found dead during the raid in Nigeria last week.

The president of the Italian parliamentary intelligence services  committee, Massimo D'Alema, said the raid "wasn't reasonably" conducted if it turned into an hours-long battle with the hostages' captors.

An autopsy in Rome found Lamolinara was shot at close range, including in the head, indicating the shots were likely fired by his captors. - Sapa-AP
