Man arraigned over alleged armed robbery

Ikeja – A middle-aged man, Emeka Obi, was on Friday arraigned at an Ikeja High Court in  Lagos over alleged armed robbery.

Obi was arraigned before the court presided over by Justice Lateefat Okunnu, on a two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery.

According to the prosecutor, Monsunmola Balogun, the accused had on Nov. 6, 2008 conspired with one Shola (now at large), to rob one Abosede Abass at Oja-Oba area of Lagos.

Balogun alleged that Obi had pulled a gun on Abass and forcefully obtained her handbag, which contained the sum of N28,840, a Visaphone handset and an ATM card.

She said that the alleged offence of conspiracy and armed robbery was contrary to Sections 402 (2a) and 403 (a) of the Criminal Code, Cap C17, Vol II, Laws of Lagos State, 2003.

Obi, however, pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Okunnu adjourned the matter to May 30, 2012 for commencement of trial. (NAN)
