2 killed, 7 injured as tipper lorry loses control in Kaduna

Kaduna – A Tipper lorry with registration number Kwara XP 750 FFA on Thursday lost control, killed two and injured seven motorcyclists, witnesses said.

The accident occurred when the victims tried to cross the Joint Task Force (JTF) checkpoint at Gonin Gora, a satellite town in Kaduna, eyewitnesses said.

They  said when the truck driver conveying sand lost control because of  break failure; it ran into the motorcyclists.

"We were standing by the other side of the road when we saw the truck speeding to the checkpoint, the driver was shouting 'ba burki, ba burki!' (No break, no break).

"The driver lost control and ran into the motorcyclist, killing two and injuring several others and damaging all the motorcycles.

" One of the victims, a lady, died instantly."

The Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 1 Mechanised Division, Col. Sani Usman, who confirmed the incident on telephone, said the accident was as a result of loss of control on the part of the truck driver.

"The driver lost control and ran into some motorcyclists, killing two, injuring seven and damaging their motorcycles.

"I seize this opportunity to convey our sympathy to the families of all those who lost their lives and to those victims who sustained injury and got their motorcycles damaged," Usman said.

Usman appealed to the people of the State to be patient, understanding and to support the JTF in its quest to ensure lasting peace and security.

A Rescue Officer of the FRSC, Ibrahim Muhammed, said the injured persons had been taken to St. Gerald's Hospital, Kaduna. (NAN)
