Job Title: Marketing Manager

Reporting To (Job Title): Marketing Director

Organisation: GlaxoSmithKline – GSK Nigeria

Job Purpose/Scope: To co-ordinate and manage all marketing activities for the Nutritionals via great brand communications based on strong insights; consumer led innovations and expert engagement to ensure strong brand equities with volume and value share growth; strong category sales and overall profit growth

Key Responsibilities   

1. Inputs strongly in development of strategic long, medium and short term plans for brands by:

2. Directs and co-ordinates the implementation and achievement of agreed plans by:

• Initiating and co-ordinating progress on all brand projects within category.

• Facilitating the launch of new products and related extensions and innovations

3. Monitors, analyses and evaluates market place developments relating to:

• Own and competitive developments.

• Sales management team

• Supply chain performance.

• Consumer behaviour.

• Suppliers performance

4. Manages and motivates Brand Managers by:

• Trainingand Development•

Managing team for optimal performance

5. Carries out managerial duties by:

• Referring to superior for counsel and where necessary approval of strategies and plans.

• Working within budget parameters.

• Monitoring progress towards achieving objectives per brand under management.

• Providing input into overall planning of business.

• Liaising with other functions and departments regarding issues such as distribution, production, regulatory, sales performance, etc.

• Liaising with the world-wide GSK organisation especially the NHD Future teams regarding best practices, global strategies, R&D etc.

• Initiates, manages & roll out key projects within category or as advised by management

In order to ensure that overall strategic objectives are met.

Qualifications, Experience   

•   A university degree plus an MBA as well as minimum 7 years line marketing experience, supplemented by related experience in the sales discipline or marketing communication. Must have minimum 2 years of managing teams.

•   Sound marketing skills required, supplemented by a strong general business, Persuasive and Negotiation skills

•   Strong management, motivational, communication and influencing skills

•   Good team building and people management skills

•   Competencies   Insight into and understanding of consumer attitudes, behaviour and motivations.

•   Sound technical knowledge with regard to relevant information for the Nutritional business

•   Good knowledge of the advertising, media and marketing research disciplines.
