Man shooting his own son in Austria

37-year-old man had hauled his eight-year-old boy and seven-year-old girl out of their classes and shot the boy in the head in the cloakroom.

The school where the shooting happened is located in Sankt Poelten, west of Vienna.

It was Young Red Cross day and the paramedics were telling the children about first aid at the school.

The boy was found unconscious less than a minute after he was shot. Five minutes later when  an emergency doctor arrived at the school and the boy was quickly given artificial respiration.

Police tracked the father down by locating his mobile phone signal. Later police found his dead body in a car that was overturned on a highway. He had apparently shot himself. The police mentioned that the man had a record of domestic violence.

The boy condition has been described as "very critical" from the doctors after being in an emergency surgery and his sister was unharmed. says the Der Standard news website.

The children in the school are now given counselling by child psychologists.
