Fear grips Akala as Oyo PDP members defect to ACN

It was a carnival-like atmosphere yesterday in Oyo town when a prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Chief Bisi Ilaka, led hundreds of his supporters into the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).

The Nation learnt that the defection has caused jitters in the camp of Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala.
But a source close to the governor said the event  has no consequence on Alao-Akala returning to power in 2011.

The defection rally, which  Ilaka tagged "Funeral rites for PDP in Oyo State," took place at the popular Akesan market in front of the palace of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III.

Party faithful brandishing brooms sang anti-PDP slogans.
