The Real Trouble With Nigeria and Some Solutions!

Nigeria is so overwhelmed with tons of problems that it could be quite exasperating, trying to ascertain exactly where to apply the lever! However, through systematic analysis, it is possible to lift the veil of confusion and get to the crux of the matter.

Needless to  recycle the litany of woes that confront the masses daily, because we all know them too well! The question then is: what is the cause of the appalling situation? Why is it so? Why is Nigeria at 50 not able to provide the most basic amenities for  her populace? Why are the masses suffering in the midst of plenty? Why are we not patriotic? Why is there so much corruption? Why is the nation decaying? Why has the self-acclaimed  `Giant of Africa´ become a dwarf? Is there something endemically wrong with Nigerians?

Everyone  will be quick  to assert that the trouble with Nigeria is , corruption aside, the leadership!  Truly so! You don´t have to be a Chinua Achebe to know that.  But then again, the nagging question is : why do we have such a terrible leadership? Why? Why don´t we have patriotic leaders, whose only interest is to serve Nigeria selflessly, instead of plundering our treasury endlessly? (Naturally, people like Babangida would tell you it´s the followership!). Leadership or followership, why are we the way we are?  What is the REAL cause of our troubles?

A careful analysis could lead one to come up with what might be termed the ALIEN FACTOR and its attendants. Let me explain:

The country itself is an alien creation of the racist British in 1914. And before that, in 1884 in Berlin, white folks cut up Africa like a piece of cake, dividing the spoils among themselves, so as to colonise, exploit and  oppress us. And before that, these same imperialists, like their Arab predecessors, did a Holocaust on us, which they romantically call the Slave Trade. Prior to that, the  Romans were in charge in Ancient Egypt.. And before the Romans, the Macedonians under Alexander the Great (333BCE) called the shots. And long before that, around 525BCE, the Persians invaded us in North Africa. Since then, we have steadily declined in global power, while Europeans and Arabs have literally controlled our lives!
