Martins charges Jonathan over terrorism

ABEOKUTA—The Archbishop of the Metropolitan See of Lagos, Most Rev. Dr. Alfred Adewale Martins, has urged the Federal Government to step on toes so as to tackle terrorism in the country.

Archbishop Martins, who made the call at the sendforth in his honour by priests, religious and faithful of the Catholic Diocese of Abeokuta, yesterday, called on stakeholders in security sector to do all that was necessary to make the country safe for all.

He said security actions must be intensified and refined to curtail the incessant killing by  gunmen.

Martins said the nation's security situation seems to be going from bad to worse, terrorists strike almost at will against innocent citizens  across the northern parts of the country.

He noted that it was a primary duty of government to ensure security of life and property of citizens all over the nation, pointing out that there can be no excuse for failure in this primary duty.

The Archbishop noted:  "The recurrent attacks on Christian places of worship, and indeed, on so many other people and places, are cowardly acts against innocent people and are to be vehemently condemned by all people of good will, " he said.
