Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and other chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are expected in Akure, Ondo state today (Saturday) for the unity rally to herald the flag off of the campaign of the party ahead of the October 20 governorship election.

Also, the party said that the ruling of the Akure High Court nullifying the local government and state congresses of the party has been appealed and would not affect the chances of the party in the coming election.

It added that the party had already filed a stay of execution of the ruling while the ruling would also be challenged at the Court of Appeal.

Addressing newsmen ahead of today's rally the Director-General (DG) of the Campaign Organisation, Dr. Dare Bada said this in Akure that other PDP governors across the country would be attending the rally.

Dr Bada said the rally would be used to officially welcome and formally unite political leaders that recently joined the party.

He pointed out that "The new joiners and our returnee members have significantly swelled the membership of the PDP and repositioned the party to its pre-eminent position as the largest party in Ondo state and the sure winner of the October 20, 2012 governorship election in Ondo state.

Meanwhile, ruling on an application for an injunction brought by some members of the party against the constitution of the state Executive of the party, Justice C. E. T. Ajama said that the congresses were held in disobedience of an order of the court.

The plaintiff in the suit  Mrs Alaka Abigail, Adetokunbo Michael, Fanika Oluwasina and Akinyemi Rufus had approached the court for an order nullifying the congresses as they were conducted after an order of the court that restrained the defendants from participating as candidates or directing the conduct.

The defendants in the suit were members of the nine-man interim committee headed by Ebenezer Alabi that was put in place following the resignation of the Omotayo Dairo led executive.
