Job Title: Commercial Manager

PRIMARY POSITION OBJECTIVE:

Business Development; oversee company needs, handle daily business issues, manage company associations, and recognize business opportunities

CRITICAL QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

Necessary to perform the requirements of the position:

•      At least 5 years in Managerial roles in the area of Business Development

•      Education in a commercial, financial, marketing or business related field is crucial

•      Ability to continuously work to improve the company's procedures, standards or policies while sticking to business acts and regulatory guidelines

•      Ability to advise company on Service strategy, Service transition, Service delivery and

Service improvement

•      Extensive knowledge of  the container shipping industry and an ability to relate with shipping companies, other associated industry managers/customers

•      Effective  Management & Organisational Skills

•      Negotiation & conflict resolution skills combined with good counselling and listening skills

•      Well developed oral, written communications and report writing skills

Effective Customer Service skills

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1.       Retain and Grow the Volumes in Terminal

a.       Volume Retention

i.      All the existing arrangements with current clients are well documented and backed by strong TSA and SLA's

ii.      Co-ordinate internally with Operations to ensure the terminal delivers on all its commitments under the TSA and SLA

iii.      Maintain regular and very active communication with existing customers to inform them about the performance of the terminal against agreed KPIs in the TSA and SLA.

b.      Volume Growth

Develop a clear understanding of the cargo and commodities coming through  the PORT, their origin (Europe, Far East etc), who are the main players bringing this cargo and the shipping lines supporting this movement. Understanding of the current market critical to develop strategy for growth.

2.       Terminal Tariff Strategy

a.       Implement the new public tariffs

b.      Develop a good relationship with NPA to get the required approvals for tariff adjustments and inclusion of new charges

c.       Introduce value based pricing at Terminal

3.       Contracts

a.       Ensure that services offered to all existing and new clients are backed by Terminal Services Agreement (TSA) and Service Level Agreements.

4.       Customer Service

a.       Develop a proper customer service function in PORT to pro-actively handle all day-to-day issues and problems faced by shipping lines, clearing agents etc.

b.      Ensure 100% uptime of systems such as E-business platforms.

c.       Manage the annual Customer Satisfaction Survey (CSS) and ensure follow-up and action plans

5.       Reporting and MIS

a.       Develop standard templates to track volumes, performance of shipping lines, important consignees/exporters, agents etc.

b.      Set up systems for sending periodic reports to management and to customers illustrating terminal performance versus the agreed KPIs

2.       PR/Branding

a.       Develop a comprehensive PR and Branding strategy for PORT aimed at a target audience to include shipping lines, exporters/importers, Port Authorities, wider Port community

b.      Handle the local, regional and international press. Co-ordinate with the communication team in The Hague where appropriate.
