Job Title: Senior Engineer-Capacity Planning (Core)

Job Summary:

Collaborate with team members to improve overall network capacity and quality by focussing on Quality of Service and future network design in order to support business objectives and an ever changing business environment

Principal Functions:

•   Provide input to develop long term strategies for the design and planning of circuit and packet switch components of Etisalat Nigeria's core networks, systems and platforms

•   Provide input for designing, planning and dimensioning of circuit and packet switch network elements to ensure optimal use and deployment of resources

•   Ensure the timely provisioning of circuit and packet switch network capacity for all GSM elements, features, protocols, etc

•   Assist in the provisioning of short- and long-term capacity plans for the entire core network (CS and PS)

•   Perform technical investigations into circuit and packet switch network design

•   Track detailed Core network (CS and PS) designs for various roll-out phases

•   Maintain at all times knowledge and database of the entire core network, including CS and PS

•   Develop and deliver technical reports on capacity

•   Generate KPI reports for the entire core network (CS and PS)

•   Evaluate and report on new software releases as they affect the core network (CS and PS)

•   Analyze network KPIs as a basis for core network capacity planning

•   Initiate quick wins to manage sudden network bottlenecks as a result of commercial promotions

•   Keep abreast of global and local best practices with regard to core network capacity planning and design

•   Assist in generating long- and short-term capacity plan to match Commercial business plan

•   Work closely with relevant stakeholders on the overall network capacity plan

•   Perform other tasks as assigned by the Manager-Network Architecture & Strategy

Educational Requirements:

•   First degree or equivalent in Electrical/ Electronic Engineering or Telecommunications Engineering

•   Relevant postgraduate (M.Sc.)/ professional qualifications/ certifications will provide an advantage

Experience & Skills:

Minimum of 4 years directly relevant work experience

Ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate:

• Good understanding of telecommunications core (CS and PS) network architecture

• Expert-level core (CS and PS) planning experience

• Excellent knowledge of data protocols and functions (TCP/ IP, Radius, MPLS, WLAN)

• Excellent knowledge of GSM/ UMTS protocols and interfaces including MTP, SCCP, IUP, ISUP, INAP, GSM MAP, GSM CAP (Camel), GSM BSSAP, Gi, Gc, Gr, Gs, Gn, etc

• Excellent knowledge of core network elements and nodes including MGW, MSS, HLR, SGSN, GGSN, etc

• Ability to challenge current thinking and suggest improvements and solutions

• Expert-level experience in using capacity planning tools like Cerion Intelligent builder and optimizer, Groundhog CapMo, Mentum Planet, etc

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
