The Ondo State governor, Dr Olusegun  Mimiko, has vowed to intensify his efforts to help the people of the state to wage war against poverty through the caring heart programmes of his government.
Dr Mimiko made the declaration at the Chapel of Grace, Government House, Akure, on Wednesday, during a thanksgiving service to mark his 58th birthday.
Appreciating God for His mercy upon his family and the people of the state, Mimiko vowed not to look back in the fight against poverty, stressing that he would continue to work in accordance with the directive of God.
He assured the people of adequate protection before, during and after the forthcoming gubernatorial election, warning disgrunlted elements to desist from acts capable of undermining security of life and property, as the law enforcement agencies  were prepared to deal with evil perpetrators.
"I thank God for this day. I am at the receiving end of His abundant mercy. This is aspecial season for us in this state and our minds are made up. We are not looking back. We shall work with our God-given integrity and strength to battle poverty, which is a reproach in this land.
"I want to use this opportunity to tell the people out there, who believe in violence concerning the forthcoming election in this state, to have a change of heart. God almighty is in control in this land.      Our people must not sell their voter cards. This is an avenue to secure a better future for our state and I want to assure you that we'll not put you to shame," he said.
The wife of the governor, Mrs Olukemi Mimiko, also thanked God for the grace given to the family to overcome its various challenges and promised to continue to serve God and people of the state.
Chaplain  of the church, Pastor Wale Akinfiresoye, urged Mimiko to remain focused and never surrender to intimidation that could stop him from affecting the lives of the people. He maintained that Dr Mimiko should continue to serve God the more.
