Fire Guts Bayelsa Ex-Deputy Governor’s Home

Valuables worth millions of naira were yesterday destroyed in a fire outbreak at the Yenagoa residence of the former Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Peremobowei Ebebi.
However, no casualty was recorded in the fireincident which started at about 2:00 a.m.
Investigation revealed that the cause of the fire might not be unconnected with an electrical fault at the ground floor of the building, located along Bay Bridge Road at Kpansia axis of the state capital.
It was learnt that Ebebi's mother-In-law and other occupants of the building escaped death by a whiskers as they were unhurt by the fire.
The timely intervention of some policemen attached to a state security outfit: "Operation Doo Akpor" and the state Fire Service officials to the area assisted in putting out the fire.
The erstwhile deputy governor was grateful to God that no life was lost in the incident.
Contacted, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Fidelis Odunna (DSP) confirmed the incident to our correspondent in an interview, saying that valuables worth N3.5 million were destroyed in the inferno.
Odunna said the arrival of men of the state Fire Service saved the situation by bringing the fire under control. The police image maker also confirmed that no life was lost in the incident.
Ebebi, a former Speaker of the state legislature, served as a deputy governor under the Timipre Sylva administration in the state before he was impeached by the state House of Assembly owing to his frosty relations with Sylva.
