Essential Responsibilities   

The Thermal Performance Instrumentation Specialist will be part of Power Services Operations and is responsible for the technical support for power plant testing, regarding the installation of instrumentation, collection of accurate test data, developing process instructions, and providing training to other team members.  – Instrumentation specialists provide hands on support for thermal performance testing of steam and gas turbines at combined cycle power plants. While on site, the instrumentation specialist job is labor intensive.  – The specialist is expected to execute or provide the technical direction for the installation of test instruments, to accurately measure the pressures, temperatures, flows, and kilowatt outputs required to calculate the thermal performance of the unit(s)  – A portion of the role will require support for Basic and Advanced Emissions testing at Power plants. This job requires significant physical effort at significant heights. Certification on some of these emission testing is required.  – Occasionally will be the sole representative of the team while at site, being able to lead the onsite execution while coordinating with the remote engineering team.  – Job requires 80% travel to both domestic and international power plant sites. The duration of the field tests range from one (1) to (8) weeks. Instrumentation Specialists are on call and can be required to travel with little notice.  – Leadership: Perform functions, such as coaching, mentoring, and training for team of instrumentation specialist in order to deliver top quality products and services.  – Support and implement process improvement and standardization of all O&P processes and services; Facilitate development of key metrics that highlight progress toward key goals.  – Develop training program to efficiently onboard new hires and effectively cross-train as necessary.  – Support EHS excellence on all O&P jobs performed in region

Qualifications/Requirements:    – Associate, or BS Engineering / Instrumentation Degree  – Prior Power Generation Field Experience  – Prior experience as Power plant Instrument or Electrical technician

Eligibility Requirements:  – You must have unrestricted authorization to travel and work anywhere in the world.  – If currently a GE employee, you must have been in your current position for at least 12 months and have at least a satisfactory performance rating.

Desired Characteristics    – Candidate must have a very strong electrical background  – Evidence of Instrumentation training in, controls systems, industrial environments, calibration facilities and process measurements an asset  – Knowledge of high voltage systems and ability to clearly understand single line diagrams  – Wiring of DC current mA transmitter outputs, mVolt and Voltage signal loops, RS485 and RS232 communications loops  – Candidate must posses excellent mechanical skills  – Knowledge of plumbing pressure sensors to various media (air, natural gas, water, steam)  – Computer and Instrumentation literate
