India's economy expanded by 7.9% in third-quarter 2009, up from 6.1% recorded in second-quarter 2009. With the relatively robust growth, there is indication that the central bank could wind down its stimulus package worth $1.3 trillion to curb inflationary tendencies.

Meanwhile, the central bank has projected inflation rate of 6.5% by fiscal year-end March 31, 2010 after the weakest monsoon rains since 1972 which resulted in low farm output and pushed up food costs.
