BENIN—FEDERAL Road Safety Commission, FRSC, yesterday, said it was handicapped in the evacuation of crashed vehicles and victims from accident scenes due to its inability to acquire heavy duty cranes.

Zonal commander of FRSC in charge of Edo, Delta and Anambra states, Mr. Wole Olaniran, in Benin, Edo State, noted that the corps was more than ever committed to ensuring that the roads in his zone were safe for motorists and other users.

He said: "We have reduced our response time to accident scenes to less than 20 minutes from the time of the receipt of any distress call. Unfortunately, our operations in rescue and evacuation of crashed vehicles and victims from accident scenes are made difficult as we do not have heavy duty cranes. Because we rely on sister agencies and private collaborators to make cranes available, the logistics involved increases our response time and thus hinders our evacuation operations."
