The magnitude of threat Flame virus posed

In May, Researchers at Kaspersky lab discovered a virus which unlike any other, seemed unusual. Experts said the massive malicious software was 20 times more powerful than other cyber warfares programs including stuxnet virus and therefore among the possibilities given as the source pointed to state sponsorship  and targeted to the Middle East states.

This extract does not discuss the propaganda and politics behind the cyber warfare but to reveal the level of threat the virus subjected millions of computers to. As reported in May, Flame virus could gather data files, remotely change settings on computer, turn on computer microphones to record conversations , take screen shots and copy instant messaging chats.

Experts added that the virus was on for five years undiscovered-something that still sounds unbelievable. If you imagine the amount of information that the virus gathered if let's say, it was meant  for spying ... imagine such virus infecting computers across Iran, Israel, Egypt, Sudan, Syria, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia.

This and many more incidents that took place recently show how fierce internet is. And so, as a regular user ensuring that your data is protected begins with the simple and basic security measures. It's amazing and at the same time unbelievable what some people do with virus and malware.
