The governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko and the deputy governor of Ekiti State, Mrs. Funmi Olayinka, have congratulated Mr. Edward Dickson on his appointment as the Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of the African Newspapers of Nigeria (ANN) Plc, publishers of the Tribune titles.
Dr. Mimiko, who rejoiced with the former Editor of the Nigerian Tribune in a statement signed by his Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, said Dickson performed creditably well in his former beat to deserve the elevation.
The governor specifically commended the bravery and professional competence of the Managing director in the journalism profession.
Mimiko urged him to see his new appointment as a call for better performance as the public are also watching the activities of media executives like him and looking up to them for succour, especially in the face of injustice.
He also appealed to the management of the newspaper company to keep the flag flying by constantly rewarding its employees as it was the only way to sustain their loyalty.
Also, Mrs. Olayinka said in a statement on Friday that the appointment was well deserved, given the wealth of experience Dickson had acquired on the job over the years.
The deputy governor, in the statement, signed by her media aide, Mr. Lekan Fadeyi, charged Dickson and the management team to ensure the sustenance of robust journalism the Tribune titles were known for.
"It is our expectation that with your emergence as the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of the Tribune titles, we will witness an era of true journalism and robust information dissemination," Olayinka said.
She added that another challenge before the new MD/EIC was how to ensure that the 63-year-old company remained relevant as it grows older, and charged him and his lieutenants to see this as a goal and pursue it.
She prayed God to grant Dickson success in the new position.
